From April 12 to November 16, 2025, the Chapelle des Jésuites in Nîmes will host a unique exhibition dedicated to jeans, the mythical garment that has crossed time and culture. Organized by the Musée du Vieux Nîmes, this immersive retrospective explores the history, impact and transformations of this now universal textile.
From humble beginnings, denim has its roots in workers, peddlers and gold miners. In less than a century, they conquered the world, becoming a symbol of rebellion in the 1950s-1960s, before establishing themselves as everyday clothing. The exhibition traces this evolution, while highlighting contemporary issues such as overconsumption, textile pollution and incessant reinvention by fashion designers.
Designed for all ages, the exhibition invites visitors to discover jeans “from every angle” thanks to an immersive, interactive and offbeat scenography.
A fun experience for youngsters
For Cycle 1 children, an adapted tour is offered, combining discovery and sensory stimulation:
- Exploring the materials, textures and colors of denim with a sensory kit.
- Reading captivating stories about jeans to stimulate the imagination.
- A playful moment: each child is invited to come dressed in his or her best outfit to end the visit with a parade in front of a green screen, a unique and fun experience.
Whether you're passionate about fashion, history or simply curious, this exhibition offers a captivating dive into the world of denim, a staple of our daily lives. An enriching cultural outing not to be missed!
