Get ready to plunge back into Antiquity at the Journées romaines de Nîmes, the must-attend event returning from May 3 to 5. Organized by the City of Nîmes in collaboration with Edeis, the delegate responsible for the Roman monuments, these days promise a unique immersion in history.
Considered Europe's biggest historical re-enactment event, the Journées romaines de Nîmes attracts a large and diverse audience every year, combining festive fun with family learning.
At the heart of this celebration, the great show in the arenas, entitled "Germanicus and the Barbarian Wrath", transports you to the heart of a tragic episode in Roman history. Over 600 amateur and professional re-enactors relive the tragedy of the massacre perpetrated by Germanic tribes, led by Arminius, against three Roman legions and their escorts, resulting in the deaths of almost 25,000 people. Under the command of Roman military leader Germanicus, the mission to restore Roman honor in this tragic context promises to be epic.
In addition to the spectacular arena show, visitors can also enjoy a lively tavern, interactive workshops at the Musée de la Romanité, and a Roman wedding banquet. This event combines entertainment and education, offering an immersive and memorable experience for all fans of ancient history and culture.
With a record number of visitors last year, these Roman Days promise to be even more exceptional, transporting spectators into the twists and turns of Roman antiquity for an extraordinary experience. Website
